Hardware cloth over and around your entire run. They squeezed through the 2 inch square wire fencing I had laid on the roof of the run.
I've read about red hot pepper powder being mixed into bird food - it's at the fancy wild bird store. Apparently, hot pepper is not tasted by birds, but definitely by mammals. And elsewhere on BYC, it was discussed as a feed additive for internal parasites, or increase egg laying, or something.

I bought the squirrel trap.Slow going with just 4 caught so far,but hey 4 less eating up my feed.Also read about making a stand for them so hawks can catch them. Rat traps sound good too.

Drill a hole and screw them to the tree, or attach a strong string, because if you don't, the squirrels can carry the trap away if it doesn't kill them instantly.
If you use string and set the trap on a well travelled limb, they will fall off and keep the squirrel from having anything to grab on to
A "stand" for hawks would probably be a waste of time, but it WOULD work to put them in a safe place to shoot them

How about a 55 gal plastic drum with about a foot of water in the bottom. Here are plans to build a mouse trap out of a 5 gallon bucket, just go bigger for squirrels. http://www.frugal-living-freedom.com/mouse-traps.html

My tiny little girl cats kill squirrels and bring them in the house, then eat them. If they hear them in the attic, I am guarenteed a present.
My husband has had success with an air rifle and darts, and man do they splat when they land on concrete!!
