can someone please help??My BO hen is sick and a favorite!

Is there any small injuries? Sometimes something as small as a pin prick can get infected and the infection will travel all throughout the head and neck. In case it's not I would keep her away from the broody and babies. Keep her warm, keep her clam and keep us posted.

Yeah, my vote goes to wet pox, which is basically foul pox only in the mouth or thoat. You couldn't have done anything for her but do vaccinate the rest.

WOW with the holidays and all I havent checked this thread since I last wrote with the pics of buffy. But I CAN tell you that no other birds are sick or have acted sick (knock on wood) what is the incubation period? she never had any warts or anything just the swelling under her beak. I have been reading up on this wet pox and it says that it moves slowly and is not nessesarily fatal.. most of the time birds recover? I guess now that I'm worried about this I will vaccinating! I guess a vets office or feed store? I dont even think my feed stores would carry this vaccine. Haven't seen any over by the pen-pro. Yikes what I'm reading this CAN be nasty if this is what it is. When chicks are vaccinated to be sold in a feed store would they be already vaccinated? I have some EEs I got from tractor supply and am wondering if they could be free of it due to being already vaccinated? that leaves a few birds that would need it. Is there a way to test for this like a blood test?

Also her tounge seemed trapped down or something when I looked at our other BO (our broody) her tounge sits further back than say our EE;s but it moves freely this girl has hers almost cemented DOWN and looked infected. even puss covered...here is that pic sorry it's GROSS! /img/smilies/sickbyc.gif but it is just her beak opened..poor girl died shortly after. In the end she was fluffed up,kinda had her head pulled in and her head was kinda jerking. We put her out of her misery /img/smilies/hit.gif
