Magpie Ducks

My cat Ivana lured and was playing with a stray duck in the front yard this morning. A neighbor said this duck is constantly in the street, and that the 'owners' take terrible care of it and all their cats are skinny; it's wings are filthy and I think that's algae on its beak so I don't think she had access to a water source to clean herself, and I think her right wing is sore, no blood stains so not sure why. Unless a kid comes crying to the door for it and shows me an improved set up I think she'll be happier here. Ivana is such a philanthropist. After some breed research online I discovered she is a magpie, when I was searching for ducklings in the area when I got mine I don't remember seeing any breeders or magpies available, she is beautiful.

We got our Magpie ducks at our local feed store (Monroe Coop). They are a delight. We have a drake and 2 hens. From left to right: Larry, Curley and Mo. Curley has a crest. All three have green beaks. They are very social, enjoying human company, as well as our chickens and cats and the neighbor's dog. They can be pretty noisy, chattering among themselves and calling to us and the other birds. They stick pretty close to home, even though they free range with our chickens. They are about 3 1/2 to 4 months old, so haven't started laying.
I have found the ducks to be more work than my chickens, but I really enjoy them. They are quite amusing. I love when they start swimming in faster and faster circles in the wading pools and then they race across the yard, flapping their wings, quacking and chattering. We have a pond, but they haven't been adventurous enough to go to it. Perhaps that's because there is tall grass between the yard and pond. None of my flock has ventured into the tall grass.
