Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I have one dutch/cochin bantam, Japanese bantam and cochin bantam out. I have one more Japanese bantam still pipping.

I really hope that my serama makes it, it's the only egg that took and it was alive at last candle. I put it in the middle so it wouldn't have a lot of temp variation.

OK for some reason I couldn't post for a while. Some days I am totally technically challenged.

Anyway, I have my first pip and it is in the BRINSEA Mahonri so don't give up on those eggs yet silly!

We had to pull 6 eggs and left one that I really couldnt tell but my gut says was no good. Also had 2 marans eggs in there that I cant see through for ANYTHING. So hopefully I will have a few chickies out of the 12 left in!

Now, can someone explain pipping, peeping, zipping etc.....I feel like you are all speaking a foreign language!!

Pipping is when they first make a crack in the egg. Typically it looks like the shell has been pushed out at one spot, because it has. Peeping is the noise the chicks make, you can hear it once they have at least internally pipped. Internally pipping is when they poke their beaks into the air cell but have not externally pipped yet. Zipping is when they start chipping away at the egg from the inside, usually in a line, to get out.

I hatch in my Brinsea ALL the time. I use it solely as a hatcher.

Here are my chicks out so far !!

13 New Hampshires
5 Partridge Chanteclers

6 Porcelain D'Uccles
2 Showgirls
3 Molted Cochin

0736 here. No pips, just waiting. I think I will see pipping begin late today. I am hatching in the Sportsman this time, as I did not really plan this very well, and filled the Hovabator Genesis, as well. I could have moved them and switched them (to hatch in a Hovabator and even my 2 Brinsea Ecos), but just left them..... Hope they hatch! .

I have a Pip! Whoooo Hoooo!
