Rumpless is dominant, so Araucana could be pretty far back in lineage as long as rumpless mutts were used for the continuation of the breeding project.

Rumpless bearded EEs are a project for some backyard breeders as Araucana are very difficult to breed.

The remaining 6 of my original 7 barred rocks are 3yrs old and happily divided between a friend and my mom.
Laying: 2 Partridge Rocks, 1 Columbian Wyandotte and 2 Black Australorps. 14 weeks: 3 bantam Araucana.
Cowed to chicken math and sharing my bedroom with 8 BBS Ameraucana mixes.

Wait, they're laying? I would have bet money based on the pics in the original post that those were ~4ish month old EE cockerels. lol

Wendy, chemist, mama to 4 human children, a crazy Husky/Australian Shepherd cross dog, a cat, several fish, bunnies, 17 goats, and our ever growing flock of chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese.

My oldest son is breeding BBS Orps! Looking for breeding stock!

Sorry, no.

Mottled Java's look nothing like that.  These are mottled Java's at 10 weeks:

Breeding Welsummers and Barnevelders.

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

This IS an interesting thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the UK can't  Araucanas have tails and also crests??  -- And if a bird is a breed...i.e. Araucana, isn't it interesting that the characteristics can be so different across the pond??  --

Also, isn't a slate or blue leg a requirement for an Ameraucana?  soooo confusing, IMO.

I think they are the Barred plymouth rocks because their pattern on the feathers looks like a zebra.
