buff brahma crosses question

Hi Liz Hill - were the babies sex linked? I had two hatch today that were RIR x White Leghorn. One is totally yellow, the other has some red patches.
Leghorns don't work for sex link crosses. They carry dominant white, not sex linked silver, so it makes for lots of white or mostly white babies, regardless of gender.

Thanks, I had this happen and have two rir x leg horn and they both are showing yellow fluff at the moment so thinking they will be white as well. Curious if they will lay brown or white eggs and if they will lay as well as my leghorns

White eggs are recessive, so a white/brown mix will give you brown laying offspring, sometimes a paler brown than the brown parent.

I crossed brown Leghorn into my mixed layer flock years ago and was very happy with the boost in production. I mixed them with several breeds, mostly barred Rocks and EE. With the EE crossed, I got hens that laid nice large light blue eggs at a nice production rate. It was a good move in my flock, hope it will be in yours as well.
