Please help me interpret this ordinance

I have had a neighbor that complained. i'm not sure why, because he hasn't had a problem with them in the past but now he does I guess. I think he is going through a tough time and decided to spread around his misery.
I spoke with the Health Inspector, and asked if i could do aything to change the ordinace, and he said "Its a law and there's no way to change it". He was very short with me and was obviously trying to be intimidating. This was before I had even found the zoning laws online to read the code. I think it's not even worth trying to have a conversation with him. Maybe I should try the selectman's office?
How is your fight going Meara? It sounds like, as long as your chicken coop is clean, and not closer than 50 feet to any house, you should be ok.

We are going to talk to the city on Monday. However....I do not own "our" house - my bf does. And he hates my birds. We have been struggling with our relationship for a long time. I think that the outcome of this situation is going to be that we finally break-up and I move out

We'll see....

Does you state law define livestock? Poultry are often not considered livestock, but are considered POULTRY. Livestock are often considered 4-legged. hoofed mammals. But not always. If the wording anywhere in town code says anything like "livestock and poultry," you have a leg to stand on that they are not considered the same.

That you spoke with several people and were told that there were no ordinances against chickens is helpful. ven more so would be knowing exactly who you spoke with and the dates and times as near as possible.

Good Luck!

Have you asked him to detail exactly which section of the law rules them "illegal"?

There are ALWAYS ways to change laws. Heck, the US went to war over it 235 years ago. Not that I am advocating that, lol. But grass roots movements can and do sway the opinion of those in charge. Figure out what the complaint specifically said and fix that issue, or set about proving it invalid.
