I have recently purchased a very rare bantam breed that is not yet recognized by the A.P.A called Kentucky specks they have been around since the 1800,s but were just called specked bantams in till 75 years ago a man in Kentucky found them in a barn and gave them the name Kentucky spec and really started organizing them and the ones I bought are directly from the blood line of those birds there is a rose comb variety and a single comb variety I have a single comb cockerel a single comb pullet and a rose comb cockerel and a rose comb pullet. There is only 10 flocks in the united states and I was wondering if any body else owns these? Here is a pic of some I found on the internet

I agree, those are crtainly not leghorns. They are the only birdsI have ever seen other than Bow Lake fowl and Staras that seem to appear in Bronze (just extended black; not self black) Notice the cocks' golden hackles, but the hens' even black tone. Trademark of Bronze. Beautiful!

Those are my pictures from my website. I have the breeding flock at my farm with both SC & RC Kentucky Specks. They are definitely not exchequer leghorns!
I hatch between 200-300 each year- would hatch more if I could sell more.

Those are some pretty birds, chknbrdr, I also have eyed your beautiful La Fleche, but decided to go with standard instead of bantam, but you have some stunning and rather rare chickens. I know it lists the Kentucky Specks under bantam, what is their average weight? and what is their personality like?

I don't ever weigh birds, but I have enough genetic variation in my flocks that I get some that are as heavy as a Rhode Island Red bantam and some that are almost as small as an Old English Game bantam and everything in between. With feed costs I have pretty much cut back to breeds that almost no one else has. I still have several flocks of large fowl placed with local 4-H kids that I help select for breeding and show and get my hatching eggs from each spring, but for the most part I only have bantams and a few large breeds at my place now.
