This little "thing" was sold as a BCM pullet at the local feed store. I caved and brought it home. By the 3rd week there was already a lot of feathering and it puffs up all its feathers all the time. There are some light slate colored leg feathering too. I'm a total newbie, so I have NO clue. None of my chicks have pink combs or anything yet, but they are all getting most of their feathers. HELP!!!! I'm starting to think I have a crossbreed- lol. There is also a LOT of copper color on the feathers.

I brought them home March 9th. I was told it was a week old when I brought it home.

this was at 2 weeks

Hello? Anyone have any ideas or know anything about Marans? These are my first chickens so it's all super new to me!

I just purchased some from a breeder in NH. His are from the Cottage Hill line. I would like to know if there is a link somewhere that gives a good description of what the best examples of the breed are. Maybe this would help the OP as well as myself. I purchased 4 chicks at 1 week old and two chicks at 3 weeks old. I also got two 3 week old Olive Eggers. You can see pics of them when you visit my album. The Olive Eggers have the blue bands on their legs.

I was starting to think I got a crossbreed (which may be ok too) but Maran's are supposed to be really good in the rainy Oregon weather we get here. I will go look at your pics right now!
