My Black/Blue Copper Marans are 5 weeks old today. Any ideas whether they're pullets or cockrells? Both Chick #1 and Chick #3 have completely black feet already. Chick #2 has partially black feet. None of them have really pink combs yet. All of them have completely feathered out now. (The chicks they're in with are 3 weeks old.)

It's a tough call so far. Males of these varieties usually comb up early, but I'm not seeing that, so it's a good sign. I think #2 could be a cockerel, and the other two pullets, but I would wait a couple of more weeks at least before deciding. Watch the combs for increased height and redness. If that happens to any of them, those birds are cockerels.

Thank you! I'm really hoping to have at least 2 pullets.

Personally, they all look like pullets. I have 5, 5 week old BCM's and am fairly sure two are cockerels and three are pullets. However, there is one that seems like it could go either way. The two cockerels have much more 'pink' in their combs. I will gets some photos in a bit.

yeah, my bcm pinked up by 3 weeks. However, my mom has a pullet blue copper marans that had a larger comb that never pinked up and it is a girl, so you might be right on this one.
