I am new here.
The other day I was doing a search for culling rabbits and came across this. www.therabbitwringer.com (I couldn't copy )
Maybe will be a good option as well, we are gonna give it a try with our chickens as well.
I concur with the previous writers. Both are quick and better than anything found in a factory. I hate that moment of killing the bird, but once it is done I can dress birds easily.
You know there are videos of how to butcher a chicken on youtube? What don't they have on there these days. :o) I too just started raising chicks for food, as of February actually. I haven't got to the harvesting part yet, but I've been doing lots of research on this as well. Personally I would go with the slitting method, the hatchet is too violent for me. Have you seen food inc? One of the guys that says how bad the factory method is, uses the cones and the slitting method. He says even with him harvesting his chickens in the open air of his porch, they still tested healthier against the factory chickens. Once my chickens are big enough to harvest, I will never eat a store bought chicken again.
