Ok, so I am really leaning toward the more red of this pair being a rooster, but thought I would see if anyone could tell me otherwise. These are both around 3 months of age and both purchased at a feed store supplied by Ideal. So nothing show bred, but that wasn't what I was looking for. The one I think is the Rooster has a richer red coloring and less white. He also has his tail feathers plucked like what I am seeing on my other two young roosters. (thinking my rescue rooster is acting dominate) The hen is much much darker in feather color, but her comb and face are very pale pinkish and still developing.

Here is what I think is the rooster - Morning Breakfast

And what I am pretty sure is a hen - Midnight Snack

Kids just loved naming these. They turned out to be very gentle and sweet. In fact, Morning comes when he/she is called.

Thanks for any comments!

Are the hens suppose to be uniform in their white? All the pictures I have seen do not show nearly that much white like the hen we have. It is interesting and she is easy to spot in the crowd.

edited just to ask if hatcheries mess up this much normally? I ended up with EE hens and one rooster also. No complaints though. I know they were ordered as Pullets since my girlfriend works at the feed store I got them at.

yeah, the reddish ones probably a rooster. Don't worry about the other one being one too- if their both the same breed and about the same age there shouldn't be too much difference if both are the same gender.
