I apologize in advance for any rambling or lack of coherence, I recently took Tylenol pm.
So, there may be a chance that a move to Pembroke is in my future. I am looking at an old home, with a touch of acreage, that I can turn into a small homestead. However, I have not had any luck locating any laws regarding poultry, goats, sheep, or agricultural practices in general. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I tried calling the town, but they didn't even know which department to patch me through to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure.. but i know that i bought a goat off a lady there and she had chickens too...
She was a vet,.. so i'm sure she was doing it legally... ;)

There is a limit of 10 chickens and a permit from the town. The lady that oversees the permits is a little over the top with police force mentality. Couple rules they have you go by like not having the coop within 20 feet of the property line. Sufficient size coop, etc. she warns that she makes surprise inspections.. Too funny. There is no way she is going to get out of her car with my dog. Good luck

Right next to Pembroke is Marshfied and Marshfield is a Massachusetts Right to Farm act town.
Don't know about Pembroke enforcement, but my dad told me that in Marshfield anybody can have anything they want agriculturally.
Check with Marshfield Town Hall to confirm, and welcome to the South Shore.

From what I know and have been told, you can own as many animals as you want as long as they have sufficient space. The only limit to this is pigs where I think I read you can't own anymore than 3. As for roosters and other loud domestic animals, they are legal, but if someone complains, you have to get rid of them. Also as stated above, the board of health lady does show up at random times at the end of the year to check up on them.
