What did you do in the garden today?

Ah, but the holes were deep. Which makes think rodent. But nothing came out of the holes. For sure, we do have birds around and they do love to perch on the tomato and pepper cages.
I also would suggest squirrels. They make a heck of a mess in my garden, saving their nuts for the winter. Dig real deep too

Didn't get anything done today except a little hand watering. Yesterday, i decided to go ahead and put the azaleas in these containers in the flower bed on the West side of the house. (Even though grandmother in law says they won't make it through winter in containers). I think i can protect them through the worst of the cold, and I can treat them like @Elyrian1's MIL at 7.50 each if they don't make it. I mixed in a lot of pine needles for drainage and acidity and moved the other flowers to the beds, etc. Also put up this hammock and stand yesterday. Too hot to enjoy it now.

I checked the community fridge today. (Plus stopped by natural grocers too and got shallots and ginger and turmeric roots to plant. They didn't have horseradish, but said they do when it is colder until spring). All eggs were taken and it was full of healthy food. I'll do it again soon. I have some work homework tonight, so have to get back on that.

I sometimes get holes in my beds like you described. When I looked for info online, one thing that came up was voles. Which look like mice, but have short tails. Some years, I get 3 or 4 beans out of a row that sprout, and I blame it on them.

I feel like I'm the only person here who doesn't plant corn. I won't do it,
Me either. Takes too much space, takes too much out of the soil. DH wants sweetcorn for dinner once or twice a season. For that, I'll go to the farmers market.

I haven't worked in the garden the last couple of days. Tomorrow I'll be getting down and dirty!

I have some areas at the perimeter that need the invasive grass pulled out. And then general weeding.

But the big thing will be putting a bunch of mulch/compost around and watering. There was thunder north of us, but it just went by. We got some rain on Monday -- maybe half an inch at the most -- and still could use more.

Oh, and pick the garlic scapes! The tender ones get sautéed in with just about anything. The ones that are too tough get chopped up and used when I make bone broth in the Instant Pot. Which will be next week while DH is on vacation. He hates the smell.
