Ducks under a broody hen?

So far one of my broodies has four babies, and I think I can hear a fifth tapping away inside. A sixth I picked up briefly and felt something shift, so there's a chick in there, but no tapping. So don't know if the hen will hold out long enough for that one. (If not, I'll try sticking it under the other hen whose babies started a day later.) The other broody has a Silkie and a Belgian D'Uccle so far and two more pipping the last I checked. The fifth egg under her was silent, so we'll see. They are both being good mamas and the chicks haven't had any problems so far.

Wow!! Thanks for the update! I checked out your blog also... just too cute!!! Glad to know everything worked out and all the babies are happy and safe :)
And yeah - I just started a new college and moved back in with my parents for the semester... they've never been too happy about having birds raised in the house... and yet... I catch them watching and smiling and cooing over them lol :)

I have a broody chicken and want to try a put this baby duckling under her... The broody chick is very aggressive I'm not wanting her to hurt my baby

We are trying the exact same thing today. We have a broody hen who is very gentle. Submits to me touching her and moving her with just cooing noises, no pecking. We are going to move her today and put the 12 orphaned wild ducklings under her this evening and see how it goes!! I'm very hopeful that she will accept them. Glad I bought two extra coops just in case of illness...that so far my girls have just used as safety zones during the day from aerial predators. Keep me posted on your progress and I will do the same.
