Our 3 week old chicks seem to be itching themselves. They peck at them selves and seem to be picking at their feathers. Are they pulling out the fuzzy feathers, are they cleaning themselves, are they familiarizing themselves with the new feathers that are growing or do they have fleas, mites or lice? Sorry I am new to chicks and want to be sure we are doing everything as correctly as possible.
 
New feathers are growing in and itch. Also, if you look closely where the new feathers are growing in, you will see they have a thin white coating at the end. The chicks preen and scratch and get this off which allows the feather to continue to fluff out and grow.
