refrigerated eggs for hatching

The last chick has finally hatched. Started out with 22 eggs. I had 2 dozen in the fridge, but someone ate two eggs out of one carton before I decided to hatch them. Regarding the ones that didn't hatch, one for sure was not fertile, one had a crack in it that I didn't notice until it started to smell (and when I went to remove it, it literally exploded all over the incubator - it contained nothing but yellow/green water - yuk!), two stalled the first week, one pipped upside down and I didn't catch it in time to save it (I'm still kicking myself over that), and one just didn't pip at all. So I went into the final week with 18 eggs...16 of which hatched.
All in all, I'd count this as a successful hatch.

YAY! That's a great hatch. IDK if you count the cracked one or not when figuring hatch rate, if you do its still a 76% hatch rate, if you don't count the cracked one it is 80%. Congrats

I just got a mixed lot of 10 fertile eggs to stuff under my first broody... I was worried when the gal said she'd been diligent about collecting quickly & refrigerating... reportedly so that when they are put under a hen, they all begin to develop & hatch at about the same time??? After reading through here I'm not so worried about it anymore :D I expect a few peeps the first week in June.

Now to go find a thread regarding candling & when is the best time to check...

So it's day 20 and the refrigerated eggs from above grew 4 babies...3 weren't fertile when we candled and we had one quitter. BUT one HATCHED yesterday and there are peeps coming from the other eggs today!! <3

how did your hatch turn out?

I have a broody chicken and was wondering if I put some fertilized eggs from the frig under her, will it be possible to still get baby chicks since the eggs had been refrigerated. Also is there a way to see for sure if the eggs have been fertilized for sure before I put them under her. My friend has 3 roosters and she said maybe only some of them from the frig may be fertile.

Hello, Im new to chickens . Since last spring I have 2 Easter eggerrs, one silver laced Wyandotte and one Australorp, one Silkie hen and 2 Silkie roosters.
A couple weeks before Christmas my Silkie girl went brooody. The only eggs I had from her were in fridge. I got them out ( 7 eggs) and brought them to room temperature and put them under her. Today, 20 days later I have 5 hatched babies, one still hatching. Hopefully the last egg will hatch too. That would be 100 % success rate. I just hope it won’t get too cold. After all it’s beginning of January in nw Arkansas. Got 2 heating lights in 8x10 coop
