I just got 8 hens, they're all roughly between the ages of 5 weeks and 10 weeks. Their previous owner had over 200 hens and never handled them. How should i get them used to me? I've been dangling worms and throwing food at my feet and they're just terrified of me being their. I tried sitting in the coop and reading a book, with scratch surrounding me for about an hour without them getting within a yard of me.

Any suggestions would be awesome.
Please and Thanks,

I'm not an expert by any means, but I'd keep up the treats, sitting with them, and picking them up when possible. Just be patient. They didn't' get to be neglected over night. It'll take time to undo.

Mine are almost 6 weeks. Ive had a difficult time getting mine to eat treats too. Ive tried everything under the sun. They seemed scared. Tried the mealworms.. they love em, to the point of they didnt care for anything else. i stopped the meal worms and found they love canned cat food. I only give them like 1 tablespoon of the fish. The only other thing they like so far is yogurt with their grower feed mixed in. they love it. The treats I suggested was advice offered to me from all the folks here . :) God Bless em all lol

I agree, just keep doing what you're doing. The more they recognize your presence as non threatening they will learn to trust you. Just "be" with them as much as possible without approaching them. Good luck

Um just wondering but how much does 2 toddlers chasing them for about an hour set me back in the "trusting department"? Aparently my sister let them in the coop while i was out
