Culled my first eggs today, it's only day 3 on my detached air cell BLRW eggs, but there were a couple that looked to me like the yolk was no longer intact (when candled no dark/shadow up top, dark on the bottom, and soupy looking), so I took them out and I was right, they were all scrambled and starting to turn brown inside

On a good note, it looks like there are actually a couple that are developing, including my one egg that has a hairline crack in it - I had put it in the bator and left it for two days and it seemed to be doing ok, then this morning I covered the crack with nail polish (I didn't have clear so I used purple) and it still looks good. That will be interesting. Still no turning, and I can tell the membranes on a few look like they are stabilizing. Yay!

They are in an LG still air, humidity has been around 35-40% and temp is a steady 102 at the top of the eggs and 99 at the level of the egg turner. So far I really haven't had any of the problems that people report with the LG's. I really think a lot of it has to do with putting it in a room that doesn't fluctuate temp much, and I also think the design flaw is that the lid of the bator can so easily be off just a tad and be letting cool air in. Each time I replace the top I double check it and almost every other time I have to re-seat the lid because I didn't place it exactly right to get a seal the first time. I'd bet people are closing it, thinking its completely closed and it really isn't, leading to irregular temps and lots and lots of frustration...but anyway so far so good on my scrambled eggs

Oh you made me laugh!!!! Purple nail varnish - LOL!!! I am SO cheering for that one - "purple rain" - LOL!! Goodness this is even more fun hatching together!!!! :D:D. Sooooooooo happy that your Bator is behaving!!! Makes it do much less stressful!!

Haha yeah I was kind of afraid of the heat on the polish causing fumes and poisoning the others, but then I thought hey, they're probably scrambled anyway, a little bit of fumes probably won't make much of a difference (These are your eggs..these are your eggs on nailpolish fumes).

Ha ha ha ha!!!! Now I really am laughing!!! Im really hoping purple rain makes it - pics of him/her next to the purple splashed egg, will be a pic worth taking. :D

My incubator is the styrofoam kind too, and I agree that the trick is to make sure it's fully closed. I don't have the option of keeping mine in a room with a stable temperature - it fluctuates at least 30 degrees every night these days - but the temp is only varying by a degree or two. As I have some embryos showing up, I'm cool with a little temp swing. Plus, it's more natural, like mama's nest.

Hello everyone.I have been trying to keep up with this thread from the start but really haven't had time.I set down last night and read the entire thread, yes I was up late..LOL.I am trying again to hatch shipped eggs and so far am having better luck with these.I just went into lock-down and they are set to hatch Tuesday, the 19th.I have a hova-bater with turner and fan kit.I try to keep the temp at 99.5 right at egg level.I do dry hatches only adding water the last 3 days to bring my humidity up to around 60 percent.I started with 8 seramas and 15 u'ccles. All of the seramas had some aircell detachment.About half the u'ccles did. They all were packed really well and the u'ccles were packed big end up with the box marked "this side up".I un-packed them and put them in a egg carton for 12 hours before setting them in my incurbator.I had the turner running.I set 3 of my own EE eggs with them just in case only one or two of the shipped ones hatched.Of the 8 seramas,6 started, the other 2 had blood rings at day 4.The u'ccles had 10 of the 15 start.3 of those had blood rings and 2 were clear. When I candled on day 14 ,2 of the seramas had quit,1 around day 10 and 1 around day 5.The 10 u'ccles still looked OK.I candled again yesterday and saw movement in the 4 remaining seramas and 7 of the 10 remaining u'ccles.I turned the turner off on day 16 as I have read some of the smaller birds can hatch early.I am so excited that I may get some of these to hatch. The u'ccles came from OK so that was a long trip, the others from Virgina.I have spent too much money to even addmit on shipped eggs and have never had one hatch. Some started and some made it to within a day or two of hatching and quit.I have tried chickens, regular size and bantams and turkeys. Some were shipped fairly close and some not so close.I hatch my own chickens and turkeys all the time and have excellent results.I have learned so much reading this thread and others about hatching shipped eggs.I know from reading that people do hatch shipped eggs and so I just keep on trying to prove to myself i can do it too.I hope everyone trying to hatch this round has some success. It is just so thrilling knowing how far these little things traveled to me and still grow into little chicks that look like they might hatch.(I'm still trying not to jinx myself by counting my chicks before they pip)Thanks, everyone, for sharing your experiences,it is so helpful to those of us trying so hard to make this happen.I am so looking forward to seeing pictures of all these miracle babies. Thanks for letting me share.
