Not sure this is the correct forum, if there is a correct forum for this question...

My swt. 1 yo dd stuck her finger in the coop before we could grab her and got pecked. It broke the skin and bleed.

Today, her little finger is a bit swollen around the peck area.

Please say chickens don't carry strange diseases that can be transmitted through pecking.

That is what the person I bought them from said and I am so hoping she is right.

TIA for any replies.

I've never worried about it when the chickens break my skin one way or another.

Just wash it out really well. Keep it clean and I think it will be fine.

Glad to find this thread...just went out to check on my girls and lo and behold the heater had evaporated all their water again! I went to get their waterer and the most dominant hen pecked me hard enough to break the skin. I have washed it out and covered it in neosporin, but was afraid it might be like the time I got a cat bite and found out the hard way how dangerous that can be.

Hopefully I got neosporin on it fast enough.

That has happened to me many times over the last 50+ years. My solution has always been wash my hands twice. Once with soap and water and then with hydrogen peroxide. Then just put a non stick bandage on it without the ointment. It seems to heal much faster without the ointment for me. Never once had a chicken peck get infected. Maybe she was trying to tell you something about running out of water.
