Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps - Page 3309

I'm looking for just breeders of chickens for future reference, won't get any chicks until it is warmer. Birds you HAVE to cull would be a problem for me.

Birds:

2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Speckled Sussex, 3 Easter Eggers, 1 Dominique, 1 Black Star, 2 Reds of Unknown Origin, 1 Red Star.

1 Cochin Mix, 1 Black Australorp, 1 Delaware, 2 SS/BA mixes (Cockerels), 1 Mixed Bantam (Cockerel), 1 Blue Wyandotte

@allosaurusrock Remember that if someone is breeding to standard of perfection the cull birds are ones that just aren't perfect enough most of the time. There are some breeding experts on BYC, that suggest if you're looking to breed for shows you'll want breeder quality (bq). Just because a birds parents are show quality doesn't mean the chick will be. It's suggested that starting with birds that are good and working toward perfection is the way to go.

Do you want chicks or adult birds? There are a lot of birds for sale out there. I have hatching eggs if you are looking for some.

I woke up to the egg song this morning!  My first egg from the new flock go laid by this pretty little RIR, Una.  It weighed 1.8oz and was delicious!  I'm ecstatic.

Here it is next to a store bought jumbo!  Not bad for a first egg.

I'm not trying to be a breeder. When I say, HAVE to cull, it would be something like a meat bird that grows to fast for itself.

If your going to wait till spring.. you'll find chicks everywhere. .just look for feed store.. they will sell pullets chicks and you won't have any roosters to cull.

I know that, that is what I will be doing this year, but I would like breeders who I know have cared for their birds properly.
