My rooster suddenly has black spots on his comb.

Fwiw, the photo you quoted, the rooster to looks to have minor scabbing on the comb either from picking or possibly rubbing it against something like wire.

Thank you - yes, I completely overreacted and the spots were all gone in a day or two. I hadn’t noticed any pecking activity, but that must have been what happened!
