Hi everyone, please read this post and reply as soon as possible... I have a three year old chicken who has fallen sick over the last three days. She is lethargic, doesn't eat and has diarrhea. I have given her water in a syringe. I checked her bottom for egg binding by touch, I felt something hard but it could be a bone... what do I do?? I go on holidays for a month tomorrow!!

Hello everyone here is some more info about my sick chook: she can't walk properly and her diarrhea is green/ yellow and watery!! Yuck!! someone please give me ideas on how to remove an egg if theres one in there holding up the works

>>peck here<< for an excellent article on egg binding ... also, there's an outstanding presentation on the anatomy of the chicken -- visit http://www.gallusgallusdomesticus.com/anatomy/presentation/ for more.

You may have to find somebody to take over for ya, if you're still hopin' to keep your plans, but I hope she gets better (and, quickly ~'-)

Also, what do you think about giving her calcium mixed with water in a syringe? And sitting her in warm water for 20 mins? Please let me know before its too late !

The only available calcium option I have is for hair and nails but it should be ok. its called Silicea calcium capsules.

You're welcome, and ... not really qualified to make any direct suggestion, but I've never seen warm baths do any harm.
I'm not sure the aim of the calcium? And, I believe silicea is itself a trace element derived from quartz (rather than a specific supplement of calcium), but that could just be the brand name -- check the ingredients, or active ingredients, and the nutritional data -- if it's unclear? I'd skip it.
