INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We have some Ayam Cemani chick's for sale and some hatching eggs for sale if anyone is looking.

Located in Calumet Township Indiana

6 Chick's hatched today about 12-15 more chick's due to hatch in a week.

Hatching eggs we have a 1 and 1/2 dozen eggs available for Hatching.

So far no leakage. Breeding stock is from Greenfire Farms.
They are BEAUTIFUL!

we were searching for Buff Brahmas and couldn't find any. tSC usually only gets Lights, but after a week we saw they had some buffs!
Nice!

The TSCs around here only seem to get lights as well. Two years ago I got some buff Brahma pullets from two different TSCs. Ever since I have been looking for a male. They will often get straight run Brahmas, but not usually buffs. So this year I finally ordered cockerels (and more pullets) from MMM and Meyer. Along with black and white Langshans and Anconas. Which reminds me. 5 years ago I found straight run Anconas at my TSC.

Not sure of your location but Danville TSC and Plainfield have had more unique breeds this year compared to Greencastle- BCM, Americana (Easter eggers) and Majesty?

Eta: we were searching for Buff Brahmas and couldn't find any. tSC usually only gets Lights, but after a week we saw they had some buffs! And as you can tell by our location we are an hour drive from main locations lol
Those are both well over 2 hours away from me whereas my local TSC is about a 15 minute drive

I bought a straight run from TSC a while ago. Never again. Of the dozen I purchased 11 were roos.

We did a straight run last year, 8 hens out of 32!!! Lol luckitour local 4H poultry was having an auction. When it came time to sperate
We unfortunately had never had that issue before and weren't sure what to do. DH harvested two but couldn't do anymore because he said he felt like "a murderer". I dispatched the rest and let him clean the meat. We had to freeze them tho cause our stomachs weren't up to it. It helped that we made it two separate jobs but the thought of eating it fresh didn't sit. Thankfully I had a lot of help and encouragement from the meat bird thread here

Our hope had been to take them to get processed but where we had talked to they said they needed to be so old and they were already fighting, too many of them I guess. But it helped our 4H poultry so it worked lol we deamed that next time we order pullets lol ((we have bought from the pullet bin several times and half the time we come home with the packing peanut roo lol))

The processing people I found nearby said I needed at least 25 birds or they wouldn't do it. They recommended me to a "good 'ol boy" in I think demotte that would for 5 dollars a bird. DH didn't want to travel tho with the birds in the car that far so we ended up having to handle it ourselves. I'm not great at processing but DH is and he's not great with giving a "good death" and I am so it worked out. But it did cause a rift between us at the time and it was really rough on both of us. As I said...straight runs....never again.

I grew up butchering cows and pigs but I can't do the death part, so we give the roos away or donate them.

I grew up just thinking that food comes from the grocery store so it was a big step for me. I like knowing that I was 100% humane and that they didn't die alone. It was very important to me they died a humane and painless death. I'm glad you were able to re-home them but every avenue I tried here they just wanted to eat them and I couldn't guarantee they died humanely
