Hey everyone, I'm not entirely sure where this thread belongs in the forum but here goes:
What plants are suitable to grow in a chicken run? I live in a tropical climate so cold weather plants are a no-go.

It's true they'll quickly consume most plants. I have a series of plants in pots I put in until they look too eaten (generally one day) then I switch them around. I use herbs that are known to help with internal/external parasites and/or they enjoy:
Tansy
Wormwood
Thyme
Lavendar
Rosemary
Costmary

Also Cat Grass, spinach, nasturtims, and the native Australian viola.

I just mix and match most days as I have an area to take them back into which rests them - a caged vegie patch including ceiling which protects everything from local marsupials, birds and, of course, the chickens.

More permanent plantings will need to be appropriate to your climate. Passionfruit grown over threir run are good, and grape vines will give summer shade and winter sun.

See what grows well in your area. If your run is large enough , you can plant things and cover them with chicken wire, open it up for a day or two, then cover them back so the chickens don't consume them to death. Wait for them to recover, then repeat. Depends how much time/space you have to devote to them.

All the best

What are you wanting the plants for? Food, shade, etc?

In my experience anything green in a run is quickly destroyed.
