We just joined this site today - March 8, 2013. We have been exploring the process for a few months and are preparing to have backyard chickens - by mid-to-late spring we hope. We want to use a chicken tractor, but have not built one yet. We plan to buy hens rather than chicks - and cannot have roosters here.

We'd love to connect with others in our area who are already raising chickens!
 
Hello! I am also in Springfield, MO and a chicken newbie as I just got my chicks last week. However, it does run in my blood. My grandfather ran a very large hatchery in Iowa for several decades. My daughter and husband farm in SE Missouri and raise about 500 broiler chickens a year and have close to 100 layers.

So, in other words.... I know nothing, but have several experienced resources!

Have you got your chicks yet? How many are you planning to have?
