Chicken Egg Color

Just wondering, does one chicken always lay the exact same color egg? In other words, if the chicken is suppose to lay "brown" eggs, will that one particular chicken always lay the same "tone" (light, med, dark) color egg? We have 13 hens and only a few of them are laying. We're trying to determine who is laying what and I think one of our ladies is just not consistent with her egg color.
 
My Marans girls pretty much always lay a consistently colored egg, but every once in a while, I get one that is much darker or one that is heavily speckled (SO pretty!). I understand that with hens that lay VERY dark eggs, the color lightens over the course of the laying season. My Dorking girls always lay very light shell pink/creamy-colored eggs and I haven't noticed that that ever changes. Well, sometimes one might look a little pinker, but not very often at all. So, I guess the answer to your question would be no, the color of an egg from one hen can vary.
 
Thank you for your response. That supports my theory. Now to figure out which one is laying which egg. We have two white chickens that we think are Leghorns, but we aren't sure because we also think they are laying "tan" eggs... go figure. :)
 
The same chicken are genetically programmed to lay the same color egg every time; however, the more eggs a hen lays before she molts again will get progressively lighter. This is due to enviromental factors and only applies to brown, green and blue egg layers. White will always be white.
 
I'm betting they are mixed breed. We got them from a local grower that seems to have far more birds and breeds than he can keep up with. I'm certain the Wyandottes are pure breed as we got them from a different grower and he had papers showing when and where they came from. Oh we'll, we won't be breeding these ladies anyway. Can't complain, they are still really good eggs!
 
Everything I've read about a color of the chicken and it's ear lobe proved me wrong today! Just got a white chicken from my stepson yesterday , 1 and a half years old. White ear lobes too! She just layed a brown egg , holy crap! Now I am confused.Help!

Is it possible your white chicken is a whit Plymouth rock (they lay light brown eggs) that's what two of mine are. Or white jersey giant, they are also white chickens that lay brown eggs.. Or A cross breed of some kind:). Good luck I still get several of the breeds confused cause some are so simslar looking.
 
In my experience, with a handful of different breeds is hat he gg color absolutely can vary at least slightly. Sometimes with speckles, sometimes not. Also the picture of the white chickens above, they look to thick or big to be leghorns, at least in comparison to mine.
