I was shocked and sad to find my rooster laying dead in the middle of my chicken run yesterday. I raised him from a chick. However, I went out today to collect the eggs and there were 8 eggs!!! I have 8 hens, but I've been getting about 6 a day. I have 1 Ameraucana that lays green eggs, but I haven't seen a green in months, until today. I thought it was interesting that as soon as my rooster died, my hens get happier. He must have been too rough with them. I don't think I'll replace him, though he will be missed.
