Can I have three drakes and everyone get along?

i have 4 cayuga drakes, 1 mallard drake, and 4 ducks.... they all live very happily together in one pen and get along fine, the only problem i've had is i had a blue swede in there with them they LOVED her, if ya get my meaning... all of the drakes, so i took her out to free range during the day with the calls and then she beds down in the call house at night, other than that .... no problems, i can't give my drakes away.... noone wants them and i refuse to dump them off at a lake, so as long as they get along, they will stay together

That's what I was planning too. I will keep everyone as long as I can make it work, even if I have to get another female. If not, I have a friend with a farm and an pond. She has muscovies but said she would take any that don't mix. She has a kind heart too. And she has given me visitation rights. LOL

Yes and it is highly contagious.

Cure unknown.

I have the exact problem, 1 drake, 1 duck and 1 unknown now looking like a drake. They are about 12 weeks old and the "unknown" Khaki Campbell is now developing brown feathers with a green sheen on it's head just like the Khaki Campbell drake (I actually successfully vent sexed him) just not as green as the drake's. I love them to death and want to keep the flock of 3, they can free range on almost 1 acre. I am still worried about fighting and overbreeding, so I would love to hear more about this dark neutering. Anyone familiar?

If you can find a avian vet to do the neutering I am sure it would be very costly plus probably not too healthy for your drakes. Why not get a couple more ducks]whats a few more to keep peace in the barn yard] if they are on an acre they would probably do okay. I have 3 drakes[one is only 7 weeks old] to 12 ducks they have their times of fighting [the 2 adult drakes] but it doesn't last long. I'd say 2 ducks to 2 drakes on 1 acre with 2 kiddy pools would probably be okay, although 3or 4 to 1 would be ideal that can't always be the case.

Thank you for the advice. I REALLY want to avoid neutering, I actually have found someone that is able to do it but of course there is a big risk with anesthesia in birds. So I don't think I'll change anything until I see some conflict. Is it pretty obvious when they are fighting? Obvious if/when the duck is being overbred?

From what I was told by my avian vet, you can't neuter ducks... rather, you can't without kiliing or potentially causing serious complications as the gonads are near critical organs. You can however get a Suprelorin implant that will alter their hormones and chemically castrate them. I am doing this to my overly aggressive young drake... gave him over a year to chill out and am officially out of patience.

Sounds pretty complicated and risky. Well I am just going to hope for the best and hope they keep their nice personalities but if not, maybe I can beg my husband for a 4th, female for sure. Hopefully then they would all live in harmony. That's too bad the Suprelorin isn't working for yours
