I suppose since I've had about 10 years to ponder and dream about getting another hen house it may be getting a bit out of hand (well not to me). After seeing internet pix of some very high end coops I figured my girls deserve the best so why not. I am not particularly handy (at least not with hammer and saw) but I know people who are and they were willing to help out.
I decided on a footprint and drew up the plan on my computer (Google Sketch Up) -- they aren't real blueprints but it did give me a way to check and adjust dimensions before building (also helped me spec out lumber) and to get a vague idea of what my coop might look like.
Well here's how we are doing so far
Cutting the sides
Standing Up
Under roof ventilation -- sides
Front Under roof ventilation
Almost ready for the roof
I'm working out the decorative trim and door/ window placements on the standing model (I had some in the computer model but I think we can do better) -- Mike (my friend who is handy) thought it would be just as easy for him that way.
Still to come, metal roof, front and side windows, chicken door and ladder, egg/ cleaning doors on side, wire floor, roosting poles, nesting boxes, and covered run with full wire floor burried 8 inches deep,
Thoughts? Ideas? Am I missing something?
