Please Help My Chicken With Prolapse

Hi my name is Susie . I had a chicken with a real bad prolapse , I'm sure she had it because of stress, I washed her bottom every day put a glove on and put it back in . Then put her in a small run , Washed her bottom every day, It came out quite a few times, washed it put it back in I used pile cream with antiseptic, Put her back in by herself food water, It took 4WKS AND TOUCH WOOD IT HAS STAYED IN, I have put her in her own run and I let her out now. its great to see her scratching and enjoying being out side. But every one told me to cull her but no I wasn't going to do this, she is such a great hen she not laying eggs, I don't care if she doesn't I'm just glad she okay
Welcome to BYC. Thanks for sharing your story about prolapse, and good to hear that she is doing well.

Hi checked the chicken today and the prolapse has come back out . Which is a shame ,so put it back in and put her back in her shed

Sorry but prolapses can happen repeatedly. Make sure she is in a darkened area or cage for 16 hours over night each night. It can take several days to stop her laying (if she has started again.) Make sure that she gets calcium supplements, crushed egg shells or oyster shell when she is laying. Does she normally large very large eggs? Pictures of the prolapse can be helpful to others.

Hi thanks for your help. I have put her in for 16hrs prolapse okay at the moment. I have only had the chicken 5wks she hasn't layed yet, Perhaps that what she is trying to do is lay,

Oh wow.... Thank you so much for this info I have just done this with my poor old girl.. The honey worked brilliantly.. She also had a soft egg which I managed to get all out, I've given her some metacam and put her to bed with her sisters for the night now... I love my girls and I love this site it's so helpful.

I've just done this with the honey and its work brilliantly I slightly warmed some honey only to melt it NOT hot, just so it was soft... and smeared it directly onto her prolapse, after 5 mins or so it started to look less red and go down, i then gently pushed it back inside her, I noticed a soft shell which i pulled it all out, her bottom looks ok and it's stayed in, I've just put her to bed with her sisters for the night.. Hopefully she'll be ok tomorrow or otherwise I'll do it again... Or off to the vets if I'm worried! Fingers crossed.
