Hi-

I recently read in your "Laws & Ordinances" section that Winchester/Winsted did not allow roosters. This is not the case. There is no ordinance regarding chickens, only a zoning regulation. The zoning regulation states that chickens are allowed, but does not specify sex whatsoever. I am a Selectman here in Winsted, and can assure you that there is no law preventing anyone from owning roosters. I know several people, including myself and at least one police officer, who own roosters, and they are perfectly legal. My friend, the police officer, raises 50 every year!

If someone could please change that info on the site, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just adopted 2 little bantam roosters from a 4 y/o boy in Winsted who was very, very sad to lose his pets. From what I understand, a very nasty neighbor was threatening his parents. One of them doesn't even crow!
