Hello all,
I have a Formex Snap Lock coop (the smaller of the two models), and I was wondering how many Easter Eggers I could fit in it. The coop is advertised to house up to 4 large chickens, but it's my understanding that Easter Eggers are somewhat medium sized/smallish birds when they're full grown. I have one EE that's about 3 months old now, and she's significantly smaller than the two, younger RIR roosters I've raised and am finding new homes for. I have 3 EE sexed (female, or so I pray) chicks that are about a week old, so I'm currently looking at eventually having 4 EE hens in the Formex coop. However, I was wondering if I could fit one more EE in there for a total of 5. If so, I might make a trip back out to the local feed store and pick up one more EE chick while they still have some. Thanks in advance for advice and help.

I bought the larger of the Snap Lock coops that states it will hold 12 full size chickens. IT WILL NOT. I have 11 chickens and put them in at 2 months old and there was absolutely not enough room for them. Not to mention there is no place to put food or water in the coop. I would put no more than 3 or 4 chickens in the large one so I agree with Flockwatcher that 2 is about right for the small one.
I purchased another large 6X8 coop for my chickens and plan to sell the Snap Lock or use it for quarantine/emergency issues.
The Snap Lock is a great coop and very secure, it was just not big enough for the number of chickens I have.
 
Hello all. I have the large snap lock coop and have 5 full size chickens in it and so far they seem perfectly happy.Mine is contained in a larger chicken wired area about 12 by12 covered.Waiting to see how well it does in winter.adding a little extra insulation using straw.and a small 25watt light.They seem too simply take turns using nesting area,s..
 
I just purchased the large snap lock coop. I have 6 whitell plymouth rock chicks. I built a solarium out of pvc and chicken wire that I will put the coop in. More when coop arrrives...
 
I like the coop, it's very secure and it was easy to put together. I will post a picture tomorrow. My six chicks love it but they are only 5 weeks old so far
 
Am I correct in reading that it's 42 by 39 inches and 29 inches high? I agree, I would not want to plan on putting more than a couple chickens in there. Obviously, having a nice outdoor run space makes a big difference, but that's assuming that's a given--otherwise it isn't even big enough for one chicken. :)

I does look like a convenient and sturdy little setup. But since you're in the deep south, I'd also agree that a more open design is better than something so closed in (I live in HI and have done it both ways). I'd definitely recommend more ventilation for the deep Southeast (or anywhere else with hot, humid climate). That style of coop is better suited to New England or Minnesota, IMO.
