NatureWise Feather Fixer pellet- anyone using?

I switched over to this about 3 weeks ago, not because of molt, but because we had previously received a moldy bag of food and it caused my flock to go off feed and look a little puny. I was interested in getting them "back to pretty" in both flesh and feather.

I just started on bag number 2 and these birds all looked like they've been buffed and waxed (in a good way). They are all iridescent, SO soft, and the integrity of the feather is great. Not to mention, they have been steadily coming back into good flesh, and continued producing as expected. Overall, they look excellent, and they love the feed.

Does anyone out in BYC-land use Feather Fixer as a daily ration (or use it at all?) It is labeled for continuous use in laying hens, but is specific for molting. I am very happy with it, they seem very happy with it, and I wouldn't mind using it routinely. I just wanted to throw it out there for the "hive mind" as I paid about $15/bag at Agway 3 weeks ago and when I went in yesterday, they had it on sale for $10/bag (and they refunded me the difference from my last purchase! Food for $5!). Apparently, it isn't really selling, which raised red flags in my mind, so I figured why not ask here? Maybe it is horribly advertised, or maybe it is a horrible product and I'm ignorant. Either way, I hope to be set straight!

Sounds like the food is working for you. I saw it mentioned in last month's Backyard Poultry, but couldn't find it on their site at the time. I am curious as to what the mite fighter is??? Is there a chemical in it, or is it just that it improves their feathers so they are less prone to mites? What are the ingredients? Thanks.

The ingredient that fights mites is natural, non-drug and non-chemical. It acts in the feces as it is passed through the chicken to deter mites from congregating in the vent area. It has no impact on eggs or meat and as a side benefit it actually helps reduce the ammonia odor in the feces. SunandDirt, so glad you are liking the feed. We are pretty excited about it!

TIffany, would you be able to send along a complete ingredient list? Also, what IS the miracle mite fighter, Nutrena seems pretty tight-lipped about the actual ingredient(s).

I've been trying to find it, just so I can read the label, but no dice yet. Planning a trip to the only feedstore remotely near us that might sell Nutrena poultry feed.

Thanks for the information. I realize the mite ingredient is probably an industry secret, but since I am leery of "natural" labels, can I assume the secret ingredient is a plant based (i.e. herb etc.) if it is not a drug?? I too would like to have an ingredient list, but can you tell me if Nutrena uses a fixed formula like Agway or just whatever is cheapest that week? I most likely will not find this feed here, as I have never seen Nutrena Poultry feed. I know TSC is listed as a seller, but I figure that is only horse feed. Still investigating & this feed has peaked my interest. Thanks for your help.

I just got Agway to order it for me. It's 13.25/40lbs. Are these large or smaller pellets? I will see if I notice any difference. I just bought Purina and switched from my local organic mash, as we are going away a lot of weekends coming up. The mash doesn't flow as well for the 3-4 days we go away. I am just not a fan of Purina & the guineas eat it fine, but the chickens don't really care for the Purina. The 18% protein and 4% fat is to my liking, but still not sure about the mite stuff. Time will tell.

I received a email this morning about the feather fixer,and also a $2.00 coupon.So glad to read that it does work.my local tractor supply is suppose to carry this.If not I will see if they will order it for me.

Well, rats, nobody near me has it. Ended up getting just some plain Nutrena layer crumbles for the laying flock. TSC only sells Nutrena horse feed.

Wish the Nutrena website listed who sells what.
