sn0wwhite's Wichita Coop for the Twin Cities

Hi there Sn0w!
I'm new to your thread and really enjoyed reading about your construction of the Wichita Coop. We are planning to build the same coop this spring. Before we begin our work, I'm trying to get a good idea of what changes should be made before we begin building.
Now that you've had some time with your coop, is there anything you wish you would have done differently (as in is there anything you wish had been different in the original design?)? We're trying to figure out what modifications would be most helpful.
Did you find that the ventilation holes at the top of the front and back side of the coop were enough during winter?
Thanks so much for your time!

Hi Becky,
Thank you and welcome to the forum. I'm happy you enjoy the thread.

Let's see... would I change anything? Maybe I would insulate it, and I didn't. But, maybe not because I'm really not having any trouble with frost or freezing and last winter was terrible.

I did NOT add any of the ventilation holes at all. I figured if I saw frost I would crack windows or cut the holes later but I never did. I did add a poop tray full of sweet PDZ under their roost and I suspect that is helping to keep the ammonia fumes and moisture down too. I use a small rake and holey shovel to scoop the poop out daily. My total chore routine can be done in 9 minutes. (We videoed it for a friend who watches the chickens when we're out of town.)

Good luck with your build! I really had fun doing ours.
