Old thread and not to be too mean but honest to God If yall have to ask whether someone has eggs or chicks for sale on these birds you definitely have no business keeping them and have done zero research on these.

I have a friend who raises them says the should only be housed with birds like ring teal and wood ducks said it should only be about one pair of other birds unless pen is huge. I'm sure pink eared would be ok. He also says that the pen should be half water and a mouse shouldn't be able to get in the pen. I would say if you want them to breed the pen should be as large as you possibly can. I've never raised them but I want to get some one day
P.s I know that Pinola and sylvan heights keep them in large community pens. But (please correct me if I'm wrong) I think jan Hartman keeps them by themselves

We do raise them, and most of your information is correct----they should always be free flying, never pinioned or clipped. Pen should be as large as possible and mostly water, they seem to only go to land to eat, they will perch above the water, water is their security. We keep 6 pairs here at FAC, and also have an extra female right now. I don't think I would keep them with wood ducks, but ring and hottentot teal shouldn't be a problem, we keep them in pairs and alone.
Hello guys! I have recently purchased a pair of these Geese, suppose to be Imported from Africa. My main question is the temperature, if I can keep them outside the whole year around or not, they have their own cage with their own pond, water is constantly filtered and moving. They also have a small wooden House with heating inside it, so when they need they can go inside whenever they want. Is this sufficient or do I really need to put them inside in Winter? I am from central Europe so the temperatures sometimes drop in Winter down to -15 Celsius.
Your ducks are beautiful but so is your aviary with pond! Would love to see a full size picture!They really aren't that hard to care for, enclosure size is maybe about 15 by 15 by 8 high, as large a pond as you can make. These are birds that are almost always on the water or roosting above it, almost clumsy on land. We feed them parakeet seed and mazuri waterfowl maintenance or starter, and some greens, like kale. They can be somewhat aggressive toward other waterfowl and people even. We have two males that fly at your head every time you enter their pen. Because of the cost I wouldn't recommend keeping them with anything except maybe hottentot , or maybe ringed teal. They nest in elevated boxes so there might be a problem competing with ringed teal for nest boxes. They are very hard to raise or even get to breed in captivity.
