Today's a very sad day. We walked the dog, let out the chickens to free range (as always) in our totally fenced yard and went out for a quick breakfast. We got home and found that our girls had been killed in the coop and then dragged out into the yard where there were more feathers scattered around. Their breast areas had been partially eaten (their crops?) and their backs were also partially eaten. Not sure what got them -- it was broad daylight.
Poor little girls. They were very sweet and had been wonderful pets for 4 years, especially when we had illness in the family. They would follow us around the yard when doing chores, hop up onto your lap to be petted, loved to sleep in the hammock with us or the grandkids, and generally did their funny chicken antics that kept us smiling.
We will miss them very much. RIP Lady and Amelia. Still missing you too Princess - although you've been gone almost a year, you were the most adventurous and curious!
