Tea Time.... Relax with us and have a cup of hot tea!

Lucky you, Kaj. School here had a 2 hour delay because of the ice. But it got warmer during the day and I can't believe we're in the 40s. Spring is finally here. Soon it's going to be time for a nice glass of iced tea.
Best to you and all

lol - I agree with the hands on hips.

I tried a vanilla rooibos and it was the most horrible thing I've ever tasted. Had to have been the vanilla part. Anybody have a taste description for plain rooibos tea?

I just got some thus weekend. It's a little herb-y tasting. Does that even make sense?
I didn't care for it any way I drink yes: w/ honey, sugar, lemon, plain. :(
I have it to my DD.

I didn't even know there was a vanilla rooibos:confused: , but now I'm afraid to give it a try:lau

Today I found the website of the manufacturer of that ceylon tea I keep talking about. They had it in stock for $4!!! I got so excited that I started ordering it... till shipping price showed up $20!!!  $4 for the tea and $20 shipping???? That's insane!!! I think I'll stick with my herb garden and local tea.

Good night, everyone!

Yeah, I'm not paying more for shipping than for the item I'm ordering!
Glad you found it anyway; maybe you need to do a bigger order. :D

Ouch!

Sounds good. I took my daughter out today to fly a kite and we got it stuck in a tree, so we had to have tea and horehounds sticks to make us feel better. The kite broke free and landed right by the porch none the worse for wear. So we have to have another cup of tea and some more horehound sticks to celebrate!

Can I come live at your house?
Tea to feel better, tea to celebrate, yay for tea!!!
Glad you got the kite back! :)

I've got to do bedtime for DS.
Note to self-: I'm on page6.

Poor thing! Hope you're feeling better. I agree w/ searsmom about the taste of german chamomile. Not too good. I am going to plant roman chamomile to try it this spring!
I read that chamomile helps with stomach upsets and calming the nerves. So, I tried it when I had an upset stomach and it worked, but I didn't feel any calmer

If you are having trouble sleeping, try valerian. It really works. Some herbal teas are a blend that have valerian in them. One I can think of is tea for sleep from good earth. It has valerian roots in it, along with lemon balm, lavender and rosemary. If you are really having a hard time sleeping, try valerian tincture. It really smells bad, but does the job.
There is an herbal blend that I like the taste very much. It is called sleepy time from celestial seasons. I can sleep anywhere, anytime, so I drink this blend for the taste

Just found this thread....wonderful!, I'm from England and now live in Michigan, my favourite night time tea is Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime it's delicious, and I always sleep so well after I drink it

I have a horror of loose leaf tea. Being English we children were given tea in our feeding bottles as babies. Terribly unsmart now, but back in the day, parents drank tea and thought it normal to start little ones on tea from about 6 months old. I have a vague memory of how the loose leaves clogged up the holes in the teat URGHHHH........ Still can't bear it although I am a great tea drinker, it has to be tea bags!

I remember it being considered fine to give babies and small children a drink of tea in their bottle or sippy cup! I'm English too, living in Michigan now and I'm still a tea drinker although I do enjoy an occasional cup of coffee, it has to be tea to start my day or I'm all out of sorts!

I enjoy this thread as well. I think it was great that math ace started it.
I too don't feel I have started my day if I don't have a cup of tea.

Oh, I never tried it. Never saw it for sale around here. I'll look into it to try. If I find the real thing, it will be good to try during the cold season. Do you know how to make the candy? I got curious and found a recipe

I would have to work the soil up a bit to plant this herb around here. We have clay type soil with very poor drainage. I plant my chamomile in pots.
This year I'm thinking about placing a trellis in the garden and hanging pots from there for the herbs. Last year, the chickens were all over them. I had to work fast.

Hanging plants on a trellis sounds like a good idea!!!
I have a pallet at one end of my coop; the chickens can eat from the plants, but not until they get above the level of the pallet and not to the point where they kill the plants.

These plants are larger now. The chickens didn't show interest in them at the point when I took the picture, but sometimes they'll stand on the pallet and eat the plants.

I would love a recipe!

We have similar soil, but I keep adding compost! Maybe I should just put it in a pot. I finally put chicken wire all around the garden, not very pretty, but it does mean I can actually grow stuff without it being dug up!! When I do let them in, they go right for the one place I don't want them to go. Silly girls.

What about laying the chicken wire on the ground, so they can't scratch?

Ha! Ok, I'll let you know how the horehound goes.

It would be fun to make your own mixes. I keep wanting to order a tea tree, supposedly they would grow in our woods - but not with the weird below zero we had this winter. I have a poor rooster with a new rounded comb as proof, it's just not as majestic, not to mention it hurt, as he let me know when I put vaseline on it.

sorry to hear about your roo's comb!!!

Be careful; a tea tree is not necessarily a tree you get tea from. Tea is from something with camillia or camomila or something in it's scientific name; a tea tree is melaluca (sp) in it's scientific name and you can't dry, ferment, and boil the leaves expecting a lovely cup of tea, that one is toxic like that. Melaluca is very useful for other things, as is tea tree oil. =D

ow. poor guy. Roosters need that. It is vital to the strutting his stuff business. Maybe you can make him a little felt comb that ties under his chin. He can be the biggest baddest comb strutting' rooster ever. (By the time the girls find out, his personality and charm will have won them over.)

ack. wrong thread. I've lost my thread! ahhh.

Loose leaf is my favorite! I enjoy pretty much every tea I can get my hands on, but spearmint, white chai, and genmai cha are my favorites. I prefer honey with hot tea, but no sweetener at all with iced tea. Tea is just the best!
droolin.gif

I prefer loose too, but I live in a hole where ppl think tea grows in bags in boxes on store shelves.

I like honey in orange pekoe, earl grey, lady grey, etc. I can't stand the taste of honey in Irish Breakfast though, so I only drink that with sugar and milk.
Iced tea, I like with sugar and a little bit of lemon. But nothing beats sun tea for me!!! And this year, I'm going to make it with spearmint leaves I grew myself in it!!!!

I understand, but it's not tea leaves for me. My horror is roaches b/c I was born in South Fla.

Just saying, I know how you feel.

Good morning!
frow.gif

Where are you tea loving people?
I got this tea from Choice Teas that has a really interesting flavor: it is chamomile, peppermint and bergamot. It has this velvety and refreshing taste at the same time.
Oh, well... I hope you guys didn't switch to coffee
big_smile.png

I'm here.
frow.gif

I gotta try that!!!
I had coffee this morning.

But next time one of my kids walks by, I'm going to tell them how nice it would be to be able to reach over and take a nice long drink of beautiful hot tea from my favorite cup......

Wow, that does sound interesting! I like the Lady Jane.

I found my missing spearmint patch! It's a little scattered, but coming up! Harvested the tips of everything I could find for my tea. I've almost gone through it. I have one of those little egg-shaped tea strainers that I stuff so I don't have loose tea leaves when I'm drinking. I suppose I don't mind if I eat them along with the tea, but I want to enjoy the flavor and not have leaves to startle me back to reality.

Congrats on finding your spearmint!!!

I have a screen teaball. Like the egg shape that you're talking about.
I don't mind eating the leaves either, but I prefer to just enjoy the tea too. =D

In my haste to write about my new discovery, I can see I wrote peppermint. It was supposed to be spearmint. But it still tastes great. I too love bergamot.

Oh, I can't wait to harvest my mints! It seems we are going to have warmer temps here finally! I would be already out there pulling out dried weed if it weren't for the rain. Every year I say to myself : "should've prepared the garden in the fall".
What can I say... I get lazy when it's cold outside.

I don't admit to all of "lazy"
hide.gif

but I don't go out when it's cold outside. Brrrr

It rained and then the temps dropped. I woke up to a driveway coated with ice. But now it's going to get warmer. I just can't wait to start my garden. I should have more chickens to take care of the pesky weeds. Here I am trying to find another excuse to have more chickens
big_smile.png

Yes, more chickens to take care of the weeds!!!
Enablers Anonomous!!!! =D

I like that one too!!!

Gotta work on finding one of those kids! You know that if I didn't want them around they'd be all over me. lol

Finally got a cup of tea!!! Had to ask the preschooler for it. lol
DH asked our youngest to make me a cup (with help, of course), and I have a nice cup of Lady Grey with honey in it sitting close at hand.
*sigh
