With a new year beginning shortly, does anyone have any new bantam cochin projects they are starting up for 2014? If you are continuing with a project you've been working on, what are you hoping to accomplish/work on improving this coming year?

I myself don't have any projects, as we just moved onto a new farm, and I've got a total of 10 birds right now, free ranging on nice days. However, I'm hoping to get some pens built and purchase some hatching eggs this spring. I've fallen in love with the MF/Calicos, and 5 of the 10 birds I've got right now fit that category. I'd really like to see what everyone is working on, so that I know who to contact once things settle down enough to get an incubator going!

I'm just starting this spring on MF/Calicos myself. I have an adult pair and one frizzle pullet who'll be in with them. This is my pair:

700

I'm also going to work on buff barred. I have a buff barred cockerel, a black barred pullet split to buff, and a black barred hen. I'm excited to get them going! The MF pair should be laying me eggs as soon as the days get a little longer and the hen has finished her molt.

Very nice!

I'm thinking I want to start on a blue laced red project. However, from what I've been reading, finding good quality birds to even start the project looks like it could be difficult. It'd also be nice to work on crele, but, up until now, I've only just had chickens as little feathered flowers running around, so I'm going to have to learn a fair amount more about chicken color genetics before I start such things.

Silver spangled bantam cochin project? Is there a threat on that that I missed?

I believe I will continue working with the Wheaten bantams. Love the color and they overall have some good type. Hoping to hatch quite a few more from the pair this year although I'm sure I'll get plenty with mottling on them.

I'm interested in the following colors, and have browsed through this forum looking for people actively working on them, but I'm having a hard time finding anyone. Can anybody chime in if they're working on these projects in bantam cochins?

-blue laced red
-crele
-cuckoo or something similar

Thank you very much Joanie! I haven't made it all the way through that thread, and I also made the mistake of starting at the beginning, so when I went to try and find the people with certain varieties, I was out of luck as they didnt have birds anymore! I think I might start from the end of the thread and go through it. Thanks again for the link!

Hi There, I'm in NM and looking for a bantam cochin rooster. I'd love three hens in addition. Do you know of anyone near southern NM or in NM that might have some?

Thank you so much,
Karen
