It's Complicated

Hi All,

We'll now is day 34 no hatchlings yet from the remaining eggs. I have candled them and the egg looks full and black inside except for the air pocket, I cannot hear anything from inside and the goose is still sitting tight. How long do we wait before we accept the eggs are dead?
Hi Wild. Doesn´t sound good, but then some can take a long time, up to 35 days. So when you candled was there any movement in the egg? It´ll only peep if it´s broken through the membrane inside. Could be it´s just gone rotten, but then you´d be likely to smell it. Does it slosh about inside when you move it? If not, just wait a bit longer. Take an egg out again, see if there´s movement or if it stinks.

Week today was a bad day, I discovered that a couple of my old hens got I to the shed with the goose and scrated up the goose nest completely destroying it. I found 1 egg at each corner of the shed and stone cold so I figured now for sure dead. I broke them open and thenI was shocked used were fully formed complete with feathers goslings. They looked really good so don't know why they died yet and why they didn't hatch last week when they were supposed to. I am suspiciouse of the time a couple of weeks back when the goose left he eggs for an hour before she went back to them. But I don't really know.
Quite sad to see them so fully formed complete with feathers.

Oh, how disappointing. But they don´t look like they´ve been dead for long. Do you think you had the days right? Could they have been due around now, and the chickens kicked them out and they cold cold and died now? They look like they died just days before they were due to hatch, and the darker one, so close. I don´t think it had anything to do with her coming off her nest for an hour. Gosling mortality is quite high even under the goose. Very disappointing. But at least you know they´re a fertile pair, and next time you could pop a number of eggs in the incubator, and leave a number of eggs with her to increase your chances. Well done on all your efforts. You didn´t deserve to lose them, for sure.

x2.

Livin, do geese typically lay twice in a season? Once in spring and again in the fall?
