Weve had a pheasant visitor for a few months now.. Just showed up one day and stuck around.. He follows the chickens all over the property and roosts in the trees at night...All has been good until today...
Not sure if he was just annoyed, or trying to breed a couple of the hens... But there was a commotion and I noticed he was on top of the hen, then ran off and chased another.. Later that day I found another hen dead.. Not saying he did it, but im wondering if he could have?? These are normal large sized chickens..

I hope not.. I realy like having him around.. But if he is going to hurt the chickens, he might just end up on someones dinner plate..

His name is Phil.

I would doubt it. We had a male pheasant we raised with chickens and he didn't bother them. He preferred to be away from them as much as he could. He would go to the other side of the run when inside. After free ranging most of the day he would be the last one home. lots of nights he spent the night outside and would show up for breakfast.

Great. Thanks.. I noticed the last couple days hes been hanging out across the street from me and flying in for breakfast.. Must be a girl or something more interesting over there.. It is a large chicken farm.. LOL. Maybe the girls over there are more appreciative of his advances, I dunno...

Turns out Phil the pheasant WAS hurting some one of the chickens..Mainly my huge WIMPY rooster.. He would chase him all over the yard and get him cornered and try and attack him... I tried chasing him off and seperating them, but since my pens are open at the top, he could just fly in wherever he wanted... So, Phil is now someones dinner....I had no other choice.. I couldnt catch him relocate him and I wont have any abusive animals....
Im gonna miss him.. He was fun to watch around the property...
