Hooray! Good news in La Mesa, CA

Chickens are now legal for single family homes in La Mesa. You can now have 1 chicken per 2000 feet of property. Some dumbass told the council that the average chicken lays 7 eggs a week, so they figured that this would give most families permission to have 3 birds and 21 eggs a week.

Not sure if the whole thing is signed, sealed, and delivered, or if there's still some more work to go to finalize it, but it IS going to happen for sure, because the General Plan has legalized hens in it, so the city has to update its ordinances to match. I just emailed a few members of the council to complain about the 3 chickens only rule and to let them know that that's an unrealistic expectation for the # of eggs.

Any advice regarding working to ease the set back rules on coops? Some say 10 feet from property line, others 35 feet. If we go 35 feet in our area, we will be prohibited. Most lots are not that big in north county. Thanks!
