French Golden Cuckoo Marans

Thread Starter

Hello, i'm a new breeder of Golden marans. There the first breed i've tried (as im 17 haha). This most recent batch i was hatching 12. 9 hatched not to bad i'd say. I got three roos and 6 pullets. I decided to cross one of my lines with a half golden half copper to darken a few of my lines up. Those hens look amazing i'll post a few pics of them if you guys want. One of my roosters the one pictured i've decided to name roo dog (i am a big fan of sublime and the lead singer had a dalmatian named Lou Dog). He's a big boy and i just want to make sure he's developing right and if i intend to show should i get him on some special feed to bring out his gold? He looks a tad bit pale to me... Is that the norm for them or should they be more lemon maran colored? On that topic what is the difference between a lemon maran and a golden maran? Is it just a darker golden variety or is it a recognised maran type? Thanks. Here's my boy roo dog. He's gonna be an indoor rooster because he's decided that crowing all day is the thing to do.

Let me know if anyone would like to see the rest of the babies

Did you take any photos of the chicks? I would also like to see your crosses.
I found this post after you answered my question about sexing the golden cuckoos. Where did you get your original stock? It seems this variety is hard to find, and I don't believe they have been accepted as a Marans type just yet.

Lou Dog is a nice looking bird!
