Egg bound

Alright this is WAY out of the box, but WTH. If you get a mother mare with an engorged udder, so taut the foal can't drink, you use suction to ease that situation. You get a glass bottle, like a juice bottle or wine bottle, warm it up by pouring boiling water in it, dump out boiling water, make sure rim is not too hot, hold it firmly around the teat, rub ice cubes around the base to create suction, and BAM, out pours mum's milk. Might that work for an intractable egg? A little suction?

If she is walking funny, there is still something wrong. How does her poop look, normal? Can you post a photo of vent area?

Is abdomen hard or soft and squishy? Is she eating/drinking normal?

im in alabama and, no I haven't done that yet. but she has all the symptoms. she is going to the nest and sitting a long time. she is standing around, wants to pick at her back end ALOT, and waddles somewhat. I have put mineral oil in her bottom and she wants to push I have been using a small syringe.
Wellll, it might be time to get up close and personal with her. I would suggest checking to see if you can feel an egg internally. If you read back in earlier posts, it's talked about. I talked to my friends on BYC and read many articles on BYC and came up with my game plan. I knew that the egg MUST come out, there was NO other option that I have ever heard of. I waited until evening, got my kids settled, then went to get the dang egg out!

I don't know enough, to know if the suction idea would work. It's an intriguing idea. I'm not sure if the amount of suction could damage something else internally.

I guess I know just enough (with my own recent experience) to really want to help. I know how worried I was and unsure of what I was doing. However, I've learned with chickens to educated myself as best I can, then jump in and learn. There are only three options that I know of: 1. vet 2. do-it yourself 3. cull because the egg can't stay where it is.

I would not try that.

i would not try that either. the udders are on the outside for one and the egg is inside the hen. to much suction and you might suck some of her insides out or damage her vent. that's just my thoughts on it and I really know nothing but it don't sound good.

oh def gotta get close and personal well I already have somewhat with the syringe. yes its got to come out. my the last two times I have taken my chickens to the vet they died so I really don't want that route but if worse comes to worse I might.

Put on those gloves w lubricant and do a cloacal exam. Give her a tums or calcium tablet as previously mentioned in posts,as calcium helps stimulate muscle contractions and often egg is passed within an hour. Keep her warm/quiet/calm and in a dark location.

After my experience, I'm convinced it's all about the olive oil and using plenty of it! I also think the fact that she's pushing will help you in getting it out.
