We bought Emu eggs from UK and took them to Spain and put in incubator. Box was badly damaged when it arrived and to cut a long story short, only 1 Emu hatched.

Emu has been very happy for 3 weeks, lively, strong and seemed healthy. This morning we discovered it had died in the night and we have no idea why.......except we bought 4 ducks a week ago which we put in with him/her - would anyone know if this is likely to be the reason, could the ducks have passed a disease on to the Emu? I just can't think of any other reason as Emu seemed fine.

The ducks were bought for company for the Emu, but in fact they didn't really let him/her near them, hope he/she didn't die of a broken heart :-(

I am not going to be of any help, but I am curious as to what you were feeding it? Someone with more experience might be able to better help if they know that. Keeping my eye in this thread. Sorry for your loss :(

Sorry for your loss.

I always seem to accept the job of saying the hard thing: the further a chick is from a natural environment -- food, climate, constant company of Dad and siblings -- the more vulnerable it must be. This little fellow was a long long way from home.

Had the ducks shown any aggression towards Emu?

Sorry I hadn't seen your reply before. They didn't show aggression but they didn't really let him in the gang :-(

Hopefully with this next lot, at least 2 or more will hatch.
