Hi so I just got some mixed bantams from Tractor supply today and I noticed a couple of them had pasty butt. I got it cleaned up but I noticed one of them has a red vent. It's not swollen but in looks like there is a little blood but when I put a q-tip to it there is no blood just really red. It's acting fine and running around. What can I do just to help it out.

Chicken poop contains ammonia, and when left on the skin can cause ammonia burn. It could also just be irritated from cleaning. Either way, you could rub on a little olive oil or vasaline to soothe the irritation and help keep the poo from sticking again.

Ok so I did what you said to do but now her vent looks like it is "pulled out"? And when she poops it still sticks, I know this isn't right. What could be wrong? She is still acting fine.

I tried to take a pic but its not very good. My camera broke so I had to take it with my iPod.

The more you wipe the area, and smash down the feathers, the more it'll look like that. Just let her be, and as the feathers dry and the area relaxes it'll look better. Believe me, I know looking at her little booty will be tempting, but you'll drive yourself crazy wondering what's wrong.

Ok I was a little worried cause it didn't look right, but the poop still sticks though.

Put apple cider vinegar (3tablespoons/gallon) in their water and you will have to keep her butt clean enough that she can poop. If her vent still protrudes after the poopy butt is gone, then try putting a sugar water paste on it ( or prep H) and gently pushing it back in. But I would give it a couple of days after the p butt has cleared up before worrying about it.
