Hello
I have a bantam and I have a cockerel
The bantam is a cross breed and is 1 year older than the cockerel

The bantam is a broody hen and she only comes out o the bedding to have some food and water.
When the bantam comes out though the cockerel jumps on top o her and she gets him back by jumping back on him
At first I thought it was normal until both of there feathers from their necks spikes out.
They also pull each others combs and their beards under their beaks.

Questions:
Are they fighting?
How can this stop?
Is this good or bad?

:/

mine do the same thing! i also a bantam rooster as well as a silkie hen. the silkie is very broody, and when she comes out, the bantam rooster practically chases her around the entire yard! then they settle the chase by pecking at each other and both the male and female have thier neck feathers spiked up. i am not sure... but it might be that the hens are broody and that the roosters consider them "not part of the flock" because they are not always present. almost like how chickens act when you integrate new chicks into the flock.

so for answers...

1) are they fighting?

probably no, because roosters can naturally be agressive towards hens, ALTHOUGH this might be something to do with the fact that the hen is not always present and the rooster considers her not part of the flock.

2) how can this stop?

keep an eye on the bantam hen and make sure she spends plenty of time with the flock and not all her time as a broody hen in her nest. this may solve the problem in itself.

3) it this good or bad?

my bantam hen and rooster seem to get along fine... except for when she first comes out of the coop from her nest. no harm has ever come to my hen or rooster and this habit has been going on with these two for at least a year. just a few lost feathers but that's it.

hope this helps!
