So very excited! May 9th, 2014 marked a magnificent day for backyard chicken owners when the City of Spokane made the Urban Farming / chicken ordinance effective. Now, Spokane city residents can own 1 chicken per 1,000 sq feet of property. Coops must adhere to setback requirements and there are additional certification and ratio requirements if folks want to own goats but things are finally moving forward. :)

I wanted to run a 100 square foot run on my property including raised coop in Mead Washington..Just North of Spokane, I only have the room for the coop to be about 6 feet from the back corner of my home and I have neighbors all around.. I have the room for the run but not enough to make it 20 feet from my house. I wanted to raise 10 chickens. My yard space on the other side of the house would make it so I could build it and be 20 feet from the house, but I don't want to ruin that part of the yard..And I am sure the neighbor won't want the chickens that close to him.. Is Mead, Washington in that same zoning laws????
