Six week old goose just started limping last night (not sure what's wrong?)

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, but have been on and reading and learning alot.

I also have a baby goose with an injured leg/ foot, I will try and attach a picture, she is getting worse every day, and I dont know what to do.

The injury seems to be more in the hock part (elbow) of her leg.

It seems to be very painful and she walks with it cocked up in the air. I can straighten it almost all the way in a backwards position if I do it slowly, an it fells warm to the touch and is swollen.

Can anyone give suggestions on how to help her?

Read up about Perosis, to do with manganese deficiency, and niacin deficiency. There´s something that BYCers recommend on here, I think it´s called nutri-drench that I imagine is generally available in the States, that has both Manganese, choline and niacin in it. Cherck that, though, I may have remembered it wrong. (Can´t get it here, or I´d know it better) The condition perosis is also known as slipped tendon, is serious. What is your goslling eating? Many of these problems are from inadequate vits and minerals and chemicals in their diet. Gozzies need lots of grass, lettuce (romaine is very good), other greens, (not spinach), soft fruits like pears and melon, etc... Hope this helps

Hey katie55! Hang in there. I followed the suggestions of the other kind people here, used the "treats" (lettuce, etc.) and the vitamins and electrolytes, and the daily warm baths.

My goose is now walking with a limp but is EXTREMELY mobile, she is able to run around outside with the other goose now. I honestly thought she was going to die on us for a couple days, but just keep your chin up, try to do everything you can as the other members have noted & bear with her. It just seems to takes them a little time to heal.
