It looks like we may have a roo on our hands...got him today. I was hoping to see as many photos as possible of your pullets at this age to see what they look like so when I go back to the store tomorrow or next day I can better spot a girl. Just cant have any more Roo's. I know the girls have rounder poofs but at 5 weeks or so...there doesn't seem to be a huge difference. Thanks for your help. (any other tips for sexing this breed by sight are welcome as well)

This is our (dude?) 5 weeks

Generally comb and wattles develop before the spiky head/neck feathering. I see the spiky front of the hairdo but don't see any definite male traits. Hens also get spiky brows in some breeds, but again that should be waiting for more gender development in combs/wattles before it shows...

It's a bit weird, but I don't see any definite male traits.

Best wishes.

That's good to hear. I was thinking the lack of any wattle development at 5 weeks was a plus when I picked him/her out. lets hope she's a girl with a bad hair day. Thanks for the feedback

I'm thinking she is a pullet, here's my boy and girl,

Edited to add: see how my boy has no wattles, 14 weeks old

Basskid08...Gorgeous birds. I see on the boy..his comb is much different than the girl and his crest is much more wild and stringy. These will be a good reference to have when mine get a little older to compare....I don't see any type of color or thickness on my birds comb. That's helps a lot thanks for posting your pics.

Your welcome. Some think the males get wattles young but mine didn't get any until he about 2 weeks ago and they are very tiny. He's about 22 weeks now

He's definitely male but still no wattles... Breed trait perhaps? All the breeds I'm familiar with are showing wattles before 6 weeks, often as young as one week they're showing some development, depending on how they were raised. I've not kept Polish before, they look cool but appear more ornamental than dual purpose which is what I'm after. Birds raised indoors under heat lamps tend to be very slow to develop gender characteristics too.

Best wishes.

The tiny size of the wattles is a trait associated with both the beard/muffs and pea comb genes, since polish have a small V comb, not a pea comb, it is the beard/muffs at play here, so bearded Polish will have tiny wattles, but unbearded ones will have normal sized ones.

The variations are caused by the degree the genes are expressed, other genetic wattle size factors, and whether they are homozygous or heterozygous. Rule of thumb is that the wattles of birds with these genes will be smaller than birds without them, though.
